Orlando has made a convincing argument for itself a growing tech hub today. According to the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, travel and tourism is Central Florida’s number one industry right now, but the tech industry is right on its heels. The likes of moguls from even Silicon Valley are eyeing the region as another place to set up shop and found their booming tech-based businesses.
Why Orlando?

Both Florida and Orlando offer attractive incentives to qualifying relocating and expanding companies today. Starting with some great tax incentives, making it extremely valuable for new and established startups. Orlando also offers tax refund incentives, credits, and grants for specific industries like clean tech, biotechnology, and optics.

Having Universal Studios and Disney World based out of Orlando means there will always be a creative demand for innovation and entertainment. Technology is the essence of building, coding, and creating experiences, which perfectly complements the inventors and developers at the theme parks. Companies like the Iron Galaxy Studios chose to move to Orlando to be closer to the theme park development, thereby creating new jobs for local residents.

The Creative Village is an Orlando plan to transform the 68-acre former site of the Amway Arena in downtown Orlando into a mixed-use, urban infill neighborhood that is complementary to transient peoples. The goal is for it to be home to leading higher education providers, high-tech and digital media companies, and a diverse range of students, employees, and developers.

Orlando is surrounded by great universities, which means there is a constant pool of talent for local companies. For example, the University of Central Florida’s FIEA graduate program targets students who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or digital media studies. Plus, organizations on campuses, like Orlando Tech and Orlando Startups, continue to contribute to the tech community, with more investors considering the region seriously when it comes to tech development.

Lastly, Orlando’s proximity to Miami doesn’t hurt, as more and more investors and business developers look to Miami as opposed to NYC and LA. The transportation channel is making it easier for Miami entrepreneurs to conduct and wage business right in Orlando. The tech future is bright for the Central Floridian city.
