What Projects Does Orlando Have In Stock For Public Transportation?

As a growing economy and tech hub in the southern region of the U.S. today, Orlando city officials are working on a slew of development and expansion projects to facilitate transportation between different regions of the city. From a multi-city train path to existing highway and development expansions, there’s a reason Orlando is considered to be in the top 10 growing economies in the country today.

Brightline

The multi-billion dollar construction project proposes linking the likes of Orlando to Miami for facilitated transportation between Florida’s most promising economies. Although Phase 1 of the project does not include the connection to Orlando yet, Phase 2 most certainly will. With the connection, residents in Orlando will be able to travel to Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Miami in a fraction of the time it takes to drive there. Right now, the Orlando portion of the transit system is expected to open during 2020.

Roadway Linkage

$325 million is going towards linking Wekiva Parkway/S2 429 to Interstate 4 and State Road 417 in Seminole County. Additionally, the governor announced $22 million will go towards widening from two to four lanes more than two miles of State Road 600/US 17-92, from west of Poinciana Boulevard to County Road 535 in Osceola County. Lastly, $8.6 million will go towards processing improvements in the Space Florida Horizontal Launch Cargo Processing project.

I-4 Improvement

Lastly, the governor is working with officials on what is called the I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project, which is a 21-mile makeover from west of Kirkman Road in Orange County to the east of State Road 434 in Seminole County to transform the region so it better connects communities, boosts the economy, and improves quality of life. The project includes four sections: attractions, downtown, Ivanhoe, and Altamonte. A completion time for the project has been released at this time.

Transportation is the key to productivity in any region today. In order for goods, services, and people to be able to freely move from one point to another, a receptive transportation infrastructure needs to make it happen.
